Ellen: Hey everybody. Ellen here at eTrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement hardware kit for the Searsbox cargo box. This is a replacement hardware kit from Thule, and it's going to come with everything you see laid out on the table here. We'll get four of our larger plates. Four of our smaller plates. Four U-bolts with the threaded ends.
And then eight wingnuts. And also, a sheet of vinyl stickers. The vinyl stickers help to plug up any holes for unused mounting holes. So any kind of hole that you have in your cargo box that isn't being used, this can help to seal that up and prevent any leaks from happening. We'll get 15 of those little stickers. I'm going to set these off to the side, because my fan tends to blow them away.
But they do come with your kit.The more important part, though, will be our brackets. So everybody wants to know how big these are. Will they fit my cargo box And like I said, this does fit the Sears Box cargo box. But it does work for a lot of different cargo boxes out there. Especially if it has that style that has the U-bolts and clamps to get it attached. So this bigger plate here measures about 5 1/2" long by about 2 1/2" wide.
The mounting holes, center to center, for the two furthest ones are about four inches apart. Again, that's center to center. And then, the two . each one is separated by about two inches center to center. It is about 1/8" thick. Maybe even less than 1/8".
So it's a pretty thin material, but it is pretty durable. So this might flex around your bar, depending on how tight you get it. That can be a good thing, because then it'll help to kind of grip around and prevent any sliding, but, of course, you don't want to over-tighten, and then end up crushing this, or totally warping it.Our smaller bracket. Let's look at that one. From end to end, it kind of has these rounded edges. It's about five inches long. And about an inch wide. We'll have several mounting holes on this one. The two widest holes are four inches apart again, center to center. The two that are a little bit set in from that, center to center, those are three inches apart. And then from those narrowest holes to that center hole, is about 1 1/2" to our furthest out option is about two inches. So, two inches in between these two holes. 1 1/2" in between these two. And then it'll be the same going in the other direction. Now, those measurements are going to be the same for all of our brackets.Let's look at our U-bolt. So, from outside edge to outside edge, that U-bolt is about four inches wide. The threads are a little bit thicker. They go just past four inches. But I think four inches is going to be . excuse me. 4 1/4 inches. So, the center of the bolt to the center of the other one is a little bit wider than that at the ends, so they do kind of flare out. But at the top it's about four inches. There is a slight curve to that, so it'll work well for aero bars, elliptical bars, round bars. Pretty much most style roof racks. The tallest portion of that is just over two inches from the bottom of the threads to the very top of it. The inside area is about two inches. The threaded portion is a little over an inch. Maybe 1 1/8" long. So I hope that helps you in determining if this is going to fit for your box. Those handle nuts, overall, are about 1 1/2" long. The widest point, that little wing portion, is about 1 3/8". The nut, or the threaded portion inside, does sit back a little bit. Say that starts about where that bump is in the bolt, and that's about 3/8" deep. So I have a little bit of room. And then, it goes down about 7/8". So I just wanted to kind of go over those measurements with you to help figure out if this is going to fit your particular cargo box. This is going to be a very universal kit. A lot of boxes will have that four-inch-wide mounting holes. If yours doesn't but you still need this kit, you still need that clamp style, you can always drill out those holes. Just be careful whenever you do that. Always measure twice, cut once. And plug up any holes that you might have created on accide.tnAnd that's going to do it for our look at the replacement hardware kit for the Searsbox cargo box.
This kit was exactly what I needed to fit an older Yakima Rocketbox that was designed for 4inch on center u-bolts. The quality of the parts is great. Will be mounting the box for a trip for the first time next week.
This is the only place that I was able to find replacement hardware for the apparently very old Sears Sport 20-SV cargo box that I purchased recently. I used it recently on a trip and it worked great. It was a lot to pay for such basic hardware, but considering I only paid $30 for the cargo box, I still felt like it was worth it to make sure I had the proper hardware instead of the inferior solution that I had planned.
I couldn't be more pleased with this product, which enabled me to very simply, easily, and inexpensively mount my wonderful 1991 Yakima Rocket box to my 2017 Acura MDX. With your product and by drilling 8 holes, the Rocket Box is securely mounted directly to the MDX. The challenge that your product solved is that the MDX comes with roof rails and crossbars, but the crossbars are fixed mount (don't slide), the existing holes in the box don't match the crossbar spacing, and the Acura crossbars are too wide for the Yakima U bolts. Various dealers tried to sell me expensive sliding tracks to mount to the box, mounts for the round Yakima crossbars to go on top of the Acura crossbars, a makeshift assortment of bolts/nuts/plates, and one even recommended I scrap my perfectly good 1991 Rocket Box and buy a new one. Your product simply and elegantly solved ALL of the problems in the time it took for ordering (great web site), quick delivery, and the 30 minutes it took me to measure and drill 8 holes. The quality of the product is fantastic and I can't thank you enough! Warmest regards and keep up the great work!
Good product- complete kit but I would suggest you also provide a set of locking nuts in addition to the hand twist pins. They are bulky and can get in the way of the cargo.
Thanks for keeping hardware for old products in stock. I saved alot because we didnt have to buy a new cargo box.

Very well, went through 4 vehicles Jeeps and now a Subaru since I bought my x cargo bix from sears. Lost the origional hardware when I moved but this kit brought it back to life.
A little pricey, but a great product. Better than the original hardware IMO. Worked for an old Yakima Spacebooster cargo box I got for cheap.
Best customer service I've ever had buying from an online retailer!
Without a doubt I will recommend etrailer.com to my friends & family and shop here again when I need something!

Things are still working good, a year later, everything is functioning as at should.
Product as advertised. Shipped quickly and securely.
Just what I needed for my old Sears top per
I am impressed with the product and the staff. It arrived when I needed it and received multiple follow up from the company. Definitely highly recommended.
I was looking for a way to resurrect my first generation Yakima Rocket Box, re-inherited from my son. The first issue was in mounting it to the Air Stream crossbars on the Grand Cherokee. Google lead me to etrailer.com, where I found several options with the most reasonable being the Searsbox (Thule) hardware and an extensive and useful discussion of the options.
My order was processed promptly but delivery was delayed by the Post Office backlog, which also kept delivery information from being provided through USPS tracking. I inquired to etrailer and received very friendly and prompt response. I also received a follow-up email on the delivery date.
Excellent customer service! Excellent source for parts and information.
First, I was amazed that I could find the necessary hardware to attach our Sears xcargo box to our car. Second, I was equally shocked that my order arrived so quickly. Awesome service.

We used this cargo box for a 3000 mile road trip. Everything worked as it was designed. It is the perfect match for our Subaru Outback.
I could not use the "U-bar" connectors on my Thule/roof rack because they were not long enough to reach all the way from under the roof rack and into the Thule. I had to improvise with some longer bolts at home. The flat metal pieces are semi-thin and will likely bend if you try to tighten the connection too much, but I expected that since I was getting a good price. The parts that I am using one year after purchase are holding up well.
These would have worked fine if the Ubolt was 2 to 2 1/2" longer. I have the old Thule cross brace and the brackets of the brace require longer Ubolt threads height. I saved the package for my kids to use with their brackets. Had to use eye-bolt turnbuckle (because it was adjustable to fit the metal plates hole in the package) & 2 1/2" X1/4" carriage bolts. Install with the plates, turned out fine. I should have ordered the quick release package with the longer bolts. Lesson learn. Materials not wasted. Thank you
First, the price for the item is in my opinion very high for what it is. Second, no assembly instructions are supplied. third, when I called yesterday I encountered someone at etrailer that no idea of what went where and told me that the parts should be assembled opposite from how they should be done. I went to [online} and searched for the info and found what I needed. You need to include assembly instructions, and for the price I paid, there certainly was enough money to do this!
